Objectives:
Student will be able to:
Identify and demonstrate the use of accurate present and future tenses of regular and irregular verbs in both oral and written language.
Identify and accurately use terms related to planning a party in both oral and written language.
Enhance their word processing and computer/Internet skills by using various technologies to complete the assignment.
Design a menu according to specified instructions explained by the teacher, by using Flickr to locate pictures of foods/drinks.
Identify and discuss traditions of the American culture related to parties and events.
Anticipatory Set:
The teacher will ask students if they need more time to locate images of food on Flickr. The teacher will then teach students how to format their Wiki pages according to project specifications.
Procedures:
Introduction (3 minutes)
Teacher welcomes student.
Students will be asked to get together with their partner to review their graphic organizer.
Activity 1 (12 minutes) Wiki Page Format
Students will open up their Wiki page, and to create tabs for the menu, agenda, general information about the party, and a link to the evite.
Students will input information from their graphic organizers on to the appropriate titled pages.
Students will be asked to record on a sheet of paper their Wiki address.
Activity 2 (12 minutes) Invitation Accept/Reject
Students will be asked to accept the invitation of two parties, and reject the others. For those that they are rejected, the pairs of students need to collaboratively explain why they cannot attend, in 4-5 written sentences.
Activity 3 (8 minutes) Wallwisher Creation
Students will build a wall on Wallwisher and provide its link on their Wiki page, Wallwisher will support and open discussion forum from guests attending their party.
Teacher will ask students hosting the party to post the question “What are you bringing?” on their wall to their guests for their party.
The teacher will ask the students to post a comment to the walls of the parties that they plan to attend, and state an item that they are going to bring [Focus-future tense].
Closure: (5 minutes)
Teacher explains that they will make more posts on wallwisher and update their Wiki pages in the next class.
Students will be given a brochure of American themed parties to expand upon their exposure and understanding of American culture.
Students will be asked to circle a picture or word on the brochure that they have a question about, to discuss in the next class.
Evaluation:
Assessment will be conducted during class by checking for appropriate responses to questions and ability to format their Wiki pages. The students’ performance and participation will be monitored by the teacher, and assistance will be provided as needed. The teacher will review the students’ pages and check their writing assignments to provide feedback for errors.
